This was his thanksgiving gesture to Lord Shiva, who he believed was responsible for the Nitish Kumar-led NDA’s spectacular victory in the recent assembly polls.

A beaming Sharma, a resident of Oena village, said he did not regret his act and would offer yet another part of his body to the deity if the Nitish Kumar-led NDA wins again in 2015.

“Nitishji and Rahul Kumar have restored my faith in human beings. I do not have much of a life but whatever remains of it will be spent in trying to live up to their expectations,” he said.

Rahul Kumar, the son of Jehanabad MP Jagdish Sharma, won the Ghosi assembly constituency (in Jehanabad district) as a JD(U) candidate. Anil Sharma is a voter in Ghosi.

As soon as Nitish Kumar heard of Sharma’s unusual thanksgiving gesture, he directed his personal secretary to phone the Jehanabad district magistrate and ensure that Sharma got the best of medical care at the district hospital. “I’m humbled by Sharma’s act, which speaks so eloquently about the climate of hope ushered in under the NDA government,” he said.
