At the session on federalism at the ongoing national executive, Narendra Modi accused the Centre of not consulting any state government while drafting the Right to Education Act.

His charge: states have different levels of resources and infrastructure, and the Centre has unilaterally thrust the burden on them. He, however, underlined that Gujarat was self-sufficient to carry out the needful tasks, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

The party said the UPA government was acting arrogantly. “The Congress cannot stomach the idea that India is a multi-party, pluralist democracy,” the resolution read.

The party also passed a resolution on inflation — saying that an economist Prime Minister had failed to check price rise — and on corruption, attacking the UPA over the financial loss accruing from the 2-G spectrum allocation.

The party however chose to underplay the tensions in the alliance with Nitish Kumar.

“We are showing maturity and our self-respect is very important for us,” said Rudy.
