Over 3.5 lakh people are reeling under the impact of the current floods spreading over 537 villages in the districts of Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Supaul, Saharsa, Patna, Nalanda and Vaishali, officials of the state's disaster management department said.

Three women and a child were drowned as a country-boat sank in swirling waters under Sahdei Buzurg police station in Vaishali district, taking the toll in the recent spell of floods in Bihar to 16.

Around 775 houses have been damaged, the estimated value of which was around Rs 38.5 lakh, they said, adding 337 boats were engaged to ferry the marooned villagers to safer places in the flood-hit areas.

According to a Central Water Commission report, most of the major rivers in the state were flowing above the danger mark.

While the Ganga maintained a rising trend flowing 37 cm above the red mark from yesterday's 28 cm at Kahalgaon, the level of Punpun came down to 40 cm from yesterday's 97 cm above the danger level at Sripalpur from yesterday's 127 cm.
