Leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, taking exception to Kumar’s description of Manmohan Singh as a ‘weak Prime Minister’ to the Pakistani delegation, termed the chief minister’s remark as cheap politics and irresponsible.

“Such a remark by the chief minister has soiled the image of India,” he said, arguing, to the Pakistani delegation Singh was the Prime Minister of the whole country and not of any particular party. “The post ofPrime Minister is closely associated with the country’s unity, integrity and honour,” Siddiqui added.

He said he had no objection to eulogising the achievement of the state government, “But for a person dreaming to be thePrime Minister, such comment is a smack of irresponsibility,” he said. He wondered if Indian culture permitted running down the head of the family in front of visitors.

Paswan said he too had visited a number of countries, including Pakistan, but had never raised domestic political issues as “we are duty-bound to put up united face and represent the country during interaction with a foreign country and visitors from there.”

Paswan also slammed the inconsistent stand of NDA, seeking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation on the alleged coal blocks allotment scam and said if the CAG report was a yardstick for demanding the head of political rivals, then the chief minister should have resigned after the CAG report highlighting the AC/DC bills scam worth Rs. 82,000 crore and other financial irregularities of his government.
