Visually challenged test driving skills on roads

Several onlookers near Raj Bhawan were awestruck when they saw 15 cars painted with racing colours zooming past on the streets of Patna on Sunday morning with their visually challenged drivers.

Several onlookers near Raj Bhawan were awestruck when they saw 15 cars painted with racing colours zooming past on the streets of Patna on Sunday morning with their visually challenged drivers.

It was the car rally organised by the Bihar unit of the National Association for the Blind (NAB), in association with NCC directorate (Bihar and Jharkhand), in which over 40 visually challenged participants showcased their driving skills when they cruised through 50 km Patna roads.

This was the fourth edition of the NAB rally. It aimed at creating awareness on the issue of the visually challenged people besides enabling them discover their capabilities and selfconfidence. It was also an effort on part of the NAB to exhort people to come forward and lend their assistance to the visually impaired in all spheres of life.

Prior to flagging off the rally, governor Dewanand Konwar lauded the NAB for working relentlessly for the welfare of the visually challenged. "It is a good thing that institutions like NAB constantly organise activities to encourage them. People with such a helping attitude are less in number, which makes their work all the more important and commendable," added Konwar.
