Lokender Loki, 29, represents CPM from Anni constituency. Loki shot into limelight when he was elected vice-president of the Himachal Pradesh University Students’ Council in 2011. Loki made his electoral debut in the 2015 panchayat elections, when he won as zila parishad member from Anni. He has a loyal team of young volunteers who generate funds for him through the public and also via social media. (ht photo)

A former ABVP activist, Surender Shauri, 37, is a zila parishad representative from Banjar. Shauri, representing the BJP from Banjar, started campaigning months ago. He trounced former BJP state president and minister Khimi Ram in the race for the ticket. Shauri is banking on youth votes and the Narendra Modi wave. The BJP fielded Shashibala, 35, from Rohru against sitting Congress legislator Mohan Lal Brakta. The constituency was represented by chief minister Virbhadra Singh earlier. Traditionally, a Congress stronghold, Shashibala is relying on the aam aadmi (common man) card. An outspoken leader, she has the backing of all BJP factions and is steering ahead her campaign. Champa Thakur, 43, is daughter of eight-time Congress MLA Kaul Singh Thakur. Representing Congress from Mandi Sadar, she is also Mandi zila parishad chairperson. She is fighting former Congress minister Anil Sharma, the son of veteran politician Sukh Ram. Kaul Singh, contesting from Drang segment, is silently working for Champa, who is focusing on Mandi Sadar’s rural areas. (ht photo)
