In photos: Demolition drive carried out in Jahangirpuri, stopped after SC order

On Wednesday, bulldozers razed several structures in Delhi's Jahangipuri area, which witnessed violent clashes between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 16. The demolition drive was carried out by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). It came a day after Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta wrote to the NDMC mayor Raja Iqbal Singh to demolish illegal constructions that belonged to the rioters in Jahangirpuri. However, the demolition was stopped after a Supreme Court order. “We will follow the Supreme Court orders. We have stopped the drive. The civic machinery there is now only lifting the garbage and other items lying on the roads in the area,” NDMC's Mayor Singh told news agency PTI.
