Sudden arrival of harvested wheat crop in large quantities to the mandis of Punjab is cause for worry to the state government and its food and civil supplies department, as it has led to a glut. Recent daily arrivals have touched 10-12 lakh tonnes while not be more than 5 lakh tonnes could be lifted. A dip in temperature in March and sporadic rainfall in the state delayed the crop harvest. The Eastern Naval Command is on high alert to render necessary humanitarian assistance, a Navy spokesperson said. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi did not allow the Centre’s plea that it be granted four weeks time to file its response. Bedi has been engaged in a feud with Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy since she assumed office in May 2016.
