With hundreds of people from Hyderabad heading to their native places to cast their votes in the Telangana Assembly elections on Friday, the state government decided to exempt toll tax. At 3 pm the voter turnout stood at 56.17%. Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje said she felt “insulted” by former JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav calling her “fat” while campaigning in the state. “We never issue personal statements against any leader and it is not civilized behaviour. To set an example for future it’s important that EC takes cognisance of this kind of language,” she said. (PTI)

The National Green Tribunal on Thursday fined the state of Karnataka Rs 50 crore and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the city corporation, taking issue with the state’s “negligence” in protecting the lakes of Bengaluru.
