People protesting the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ went on rampage in Gujarat on Tuesday, burning vehicles and pelting stones even as cinema halls announced they would not screen it despite Supreme Court orders.

Vehicles are set on fire by a mob during the protests. “16 people have been arrested and their interrogation is underway. The CCTV footage will be examined and more arrests will be made”, a senior police official confirmed to the media. (PTI)

Police personnel seen deployed outside a multiplex in Gurugram on Tuesday, ahead of the film’s release. The makers of ‘Padmaavat’ screened the movie for a group of journalists in the national capital on Tuesday. Meanwhile the Karni Sena which has been leading the protests has named a six-member panel comprising erstwhile royals, and historians to watch the film ahead of its release on January 25. (PTI)
