In an interview with Zarafshan Shiraz of HT Lifestyle, Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, Founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, shared, “Low platelet counts, known as thrombocytopenia, can result from various factors such as autoimmune disorders, infections, or medications. Platelets are essential for blood clotting, and a decrease in their count can lead to increased bleeding risk. Yoga, with its emphasis on gentle movements, controlled breathing and mindfulness, can contribute positively to individuals dealing with this condition.”(Freepik)

He added, “One of the primary advantages of yoga is its ability to reduce stress. Chronic stress can negatively impact the immune system, potentially worsening conditions associated with low platelet counts. Yoga promotes relaxation through techniques like deep breathing and meditation, helping to alleviate stress and create a more favorable environment for the body to heal.” (Instagram/ruth__osborn)

Talking about gentle Yoga asanas, Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar said, “Certain Yoga asanas (postures) can be particularly beneficial for individuals with thrombocytopenia. However, it's crucial to approach these poses with caution and under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Gentle poses that don't exert excessive pressure on the body, such as Sukhasana (Easy Pose) or Balasana (Child's Pose), can be incorporated to enhance flexibility and reduce tension.” (Grand Master Akshar)
