Pune Sanjay Kakade, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member and known builder from Pune, was booked in a case of cheating, forgery and breach of trust, along with three others, by the Warje Malwadi police station in the late hours of Saturday.
The case was registered following an order from a local court on September 12, directing the Warje Malwadi police to probe allegations of land-grabbing made by a resident of Kopre Gavthan village.
The village land was acquired by the government for construction of the Khadakwasla dam and the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the 1960s, according to the court order. Dilip More, the complainant in the order issued by PT Gotey, judicial magistrate first class, however, claimed that the people were provided a piece of land in Karvenagar area for rehabilitation. A layout of 230 plots spread across 15.45 hectare (38.17 acre), prepared by town planning, was given to Kakade’s construction firm for development after he approached the villagers with a proposition.
A part of it was pledged to him by the villagers. However, through allegedly forged documents, the construction company managed to produce documents showing the entire land to be under their ownership, according to the complaint and the subsequent court order.
“It was agreed that accused number 1 shall complete the construction within the period of three years, however, he failed to make the construction accordingly. The complainant further submitted that thereafter, it was received that accused number 1 had executed correction deed dated June 17, 2002 illegally and mentioned the whole area of 15.45 hectare and given development rights to accused number 4 (company) without the consent of villagers,” said the order.
The parliamentarian’s brother and a director of the construction company Suryakant Kakade, another director Ashok Yadav, and one more person was also booked in the case.
A case under Sections 420, 406, 465, 467 and 468 was registered against the four men at Warje Malwadi police station. Senior police inspector Bajirao More is the investigation office in the case, according to the Warje Malwadi police.
Sanjay told reporters that he is ready to face any probe and provide documents to prove that the villagers were rehabilitated. “Of the 358 families, I have rehabilitated 325 families. Our firm is paying monthly rent to the remaining 25 families. I am ready to provide documents to the police to show rehabilitation of 325 families,” he said.
