Corporate badminton championship: Sandhya Melasheemi of KPIT clinches women’s title

Sandhya defeated Radhini Bhamre of TCS in an intense tussle with the score 24-22, 21-17.

Sandhya Melasheemi of KPIT clinched the women’s singles title at the corporate shuttlers Pune badminton championship 2018 organised by Sportfit Crest and Wellness Pvt Ltd at Silver Sports Club, Wakad on Sunday.

In the final, Sandhya defeated Radhini Bhamre of TCS in an intense tussle with the score 24-22, 21-17. However, Sandhya missed out an opportunity to claim a double crown as she went down in the mixed doubles semi-finals. Interestingly, it was Radhini, who along with Tushar Bhalapure, outclassed Sandhya and Vineet Dabak with a 21-12, 21-16 score.

Earlier in the women’s singles semi-finals, Sandhya defeated Ashwini Babras 21-7, 21-7 and Radhini got a free pass as her opponent Amarja Panse retired hurt with a knee injury during an intense rally.

In the men’s singles quarter-finals, Nachiket Dhaygude defeated Ameya Malunjkar 15-12, 17-15 while Sushant Patil prevailed over Darshak Joshi 15-13, 15-7. Shailesh Bhave entered the semis with a 21-20, 5-15, 15-11 win over Omkar Kelkar, while Akshay Behere joined the party beating Rounak Kumar 15-9, 15-12.

“It was an eventful day. It was extremely inspiring to watch the sportsman spirit displayed by all the participants. It motivates us as organisers to organise more such events and provide a platform to the baddizens of Pune.
