A 40-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death by four persons following a dispute involving a cat at Mahalunge near Pune on Monday.

Police officials said, on July 2, at around 9 pm, a cat belonging to Sarika Khalse, sister of complainant Ajay Ranpise, entered Raju Salve’s house. An angry Raju threw the cat out his house.

Then, Prabha Ranpise (40), mother of Ajay Ranpise (27), went to Raju Salve and confronted him. At that time Raju, along with three of his relatives, entered into a heated argument with Prabha.

Eventually the argument turned into a brawl where Raju and his relatives began beating Prabha with iron rods and bamboo sticks. Prabha suffered severe injuries to her head and back and died on the spot.

The allegations that Raju Salve made about the feline being nuisance was that it would enter neighbouring houses and eat their food, spoiling the food in the process.

Hinjewadi police later arrested the four accused, identified as Amol Balgude, Ganesh Patil, Akash Monde and Raju Salve, all residents of Shivaji Padale chawl, Mahalunge.

Ajay Ranpise filed a complaint against the four accused at the Hinjewadi police station.

Her nephew Ganesh Zende accused one of the arrested men, Amol Balgude, of being drunk.“He assaulted my aunt Prabha in that state,” he said.

However, a police official from Hinjewadi police station said,“The accused were not drunk as we have already done a medical examination.”
