Madhukar Kotwal, former member, board of directors, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), said that there is a huge gap in terms of sustainable development. “It is important for us to focus on the digitalisation of the internal and the external processes and at the same time focusing on need-based projects and inter-NGO (non-governmental organisation) collaboration,” he said.
Kotwal was delivering his keynote address at the function organised by Pune International Centre (PIC) on Tuesday where a paper titled, Governance and Effectiveness of NGOs - The Way Ahead, authored by Kotwal was released.
The paper is co-authored by Rajendra Erande, corporate advisor, Allied Digital Services Ltd (ADSL); Sridhar Jayaraman, secretary and compliance officer, Bajaj Auto Ltd and Vinayak Kelkar, lead corporate sustainability, Praj Industries Ltd.
Highlighting the major challenges before NGOs, Kelkar said, “One of the biggest challenges before NGOs is funding. Everyone has good ideas, devotion and passion, however, funds for working towards the purpose continues to be a hindrance.”
Speaking about the way ahead, Kelkar said, “Earlier, the funds were drawn only from respective governments. However, the active involvement of private sector has expanded the scope and horizons of NGO funding.”
“In the last five years, more companies have started to take a proactive approach on CSR (corporate social responsibility) funding. As a result, their involvement in the sector has increased,” said Naushad Forbes, co-chairman, Forbes Marshall and trustee, Pune International Centre.
