Man falls into gorge while taking selfie at Lonavla

At Lion’s point Sachin Lallan Upadhyay slipped and fell into the gorge while trying to click a selfie only to get stuck in a tree branch 60ft below and was later rescued.

PUNE A 21-year-old youth from Pune, Sachin Lallan Upadhyay, fell into deep gorge at Lion’s point, Lonavla while taking a selfie on Sunday. Fortunately, he was rescued by Lonavla’s Shivdurga trekking team and admitted to a hospital.

Sachin and his friends had gone to Lonavla on Sunday. At Lion’s point, Sachin attempted to click a selfie and slipped. Before his friends could grab him, he fell into the gorge. Luckily, he hit a tree branch 60ft below and did not fall further.

His friends and locals immediately contacted the local police, and at around 2.30 pm team members of Shivdurga Mitra arrived at the spot.

“It took an hour to rescue him from the spot and we noticed that he had several head and back injuries. He wasn’t unconscious but it was clear that he had been hurt badly. He has been admitted to Pioneer Hospital in Talegaon,” said Sunil Gaikwad of Shivdurga Mitra.

Pravin Deshmukh, Ajay Shelar, Vaibhav Shelar, Abhijeet Borkar and Sameer Joshi were part of the Shivdurga rescue team.
