Over 30 people, who allegedly staged violent protests in Chakan on Monday, were identified by Pune rural police, two days after vandals damaged over 100 vehicles and torched 30 others.
So far, around 400 video clips, including CCTV footages and mobile videos, have been examined by the local police to identify suspects. Special teams of Pune rural police have been dispatched to arrest the vandals, said a senior police official, who did not wish to be named.
The police took help from traders, who had installed close circuit cameras at various places; local residents; and journalists, who shot the violent protest through their cameras, for procuring the footages for analysis. As many as eight policemen were injured when a Maratha march for reservation turned violent on Monday in Chakan, causing damage to property worth Rs 10 crore.
Tejaswini Satpute, additional superintendent of police (Pune rural), said that the process of examining CCTV footages and videos is still on. "As of now, we have identified over 30 people, who deliberately spread violence on Monday, and are responsible for torching and damaging vehicles. Our team has been dispatched and the first arrest in the case will be made very soon," added Satpute.
Based on the investigation so far, police believe that most vandals were outsiders, working in industrial areas nearby. Police officials said that around 100 people were involved in criminal actions during Monday’s violence. Pune rural police have appealed people to share videos, clips, and photographs related to Monday violence, which will help them identify more suspects.
