Alphonso mangoes were sold at Rs 500 to Rs 700 per dozen. However, another variety of mango, Badami mangoes which are also called as Alphonso mangoes of Karnataka, were sold at Rs 300 to Rs 500 per dozen.

According to the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Pune, only 10,000 boxes of mangoes were supplied to the market on May 5 from Devgad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Raigad. As a result, mangoes are being sold at a much lower price on Sunday, against Rs1,000-Rs1,200 during the same period last year.

Arvind More, a mango trader in APMC, Pune, attributed the low production of mangoes to prolonged winter in the state. “This Akshaya Tritiya there was a low supply of Alphonso mangoes as compared to last year due to poor quality of mangoes grown in the Konkan region. Also, because of low demand, the prices have dropped.”
