Mercury watch: At 37.4 degrees Celsius Pune records highest temperature in March

The IMD, on Monday forecast a convergence of westerlies and easterlies which will trigger light to heavy rainfall along with hail storms over Vidharbha region

Intense heatwave like conditions have prevailed in Marathwada and Vidarbha. On Sunday, Parbhani recorded the highest maximum temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius, in India. On Monday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degree Celsius which is said to be the highest temperature in March.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) did not call these conditions as ‘heat wave’. The officials said that the conditions will normalise and the temperature will start dropping soon.

The IMD, on Monday forecast a convergence of westerlies and easterlies which will trigger light to heavy rainfall along with hail storms over Vidharbha region.

Anupam Kashyapi, head, IMD Pune, said, “Eastern part of Vidharbha and southern part of Marathawada witnessed a tremendous hot day on Monday. The condition will continue till March 21,after which the temperature will drop."

According to IMD officials,light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated pockets in Vidarbha and adjoining parts on March 20 and 21.

According to the IMD officials, the maximum temperature of Pune city will be 36 to 37 degree Celsius for the next week. On Monday, Parbhani has recorded maximum temperature of 41.2 degree Celsius, Vardha recorded 40.0 degree Celsius and Amravati recorded 40.2 degree Celsius.
