Prominent city dramatist Dilip Kolhatkar’s wife, Deepali (65), was found dead in the couple’s Maithi Society flat near Mehendale garage in Karvenagar, on Thursday night.
Deepali Kolhatkar was found by her neighbours, who discovered her body in the kitchen, half burnt, with smoke billowing out of the window. The neighbours then immediately called the police and Deepali was rushed to hospital, but was proclaimed dead on arrival.
According to police, the post mortem revealed that she sustained a serious head injury and an FIR related to murder has been lodged at the Alankar police station.
Dilip Kolhatkar, his wife and her mother stayed at the Karvenagar flat. Two servants were employed on day and night duties, respectively.
The Kolhatkars have a son in the US and a daughter who also resides in Karvenagar. A police investigation is underway.
