Sharat Bhat from the city scored an all India rank (AIR) of 31 in the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main) 2018, the results of which were declared on Monday. The 18-year-old Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay aspirant, scored a total of 333 in the exam.
Another student of the Arihant Junior College, Camp, Arnhav Datar, secured an AIR of 41 with a total score of 330.
“I had expected a double digit rank, but to be within the top 50 is unbelievable. Amidst all the celebrations, the news is yet to sink in,” said Bhat. The struggle is not over yet, said the student 18-year-old student of P Jog Junior College, Kothrud. “I still have to perform well in the JEE Advanced and after that hurdle is crossed, I want to pursue a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay.”
Having dedicated almost 10 hours to his studies every day, Bhat believes that hard work and focus is the most important tip to crack the test. “This exam is about consistently and periodically learning each and every concept and revising it. There are no short cuts to success and the more you revise and test yourself, the better you become,” said Bhat. With the help of coaching classes and periodic weekly tests, he has been preparing for the test since the past two years.
“Coaching classes only guide you in the right direction and give you a certain level of exposure, the rest depends on your hard work. However, the weekly tests really helped me because it allowed me to see where I stand on a weekly basis,” added Bhat.
