Pune gets its first grey water treatment plant for Taljai hill
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has developed the city’s first grey water treatment plant at Sahakar Nagar, thanks to the efforts of the local corporator Aba Bagul. The grey water plant in Vasantrao Bagul Park in Sahakar Nagar will be helpful in transporting processed water to nearby Taljai hill to maintain its greenery.

“The Taljai hill will get 5 lakh litres of water everyday from the city’s first grey-water processing plant which will ensure that the hill remains green throughout the year,” said Aba Bagul during the inaugural ceremony of the grey water treatment plant.
Mahesh Namrupkar, landscape architect , Ajit Kondhalkar, municipal officer of PMC and other environmental lovers were present at the function.
The Taljai hill is spread over 107 acres and will soon bloom into a rich biodiversity park through the initiative taken by the Pune Municipal Corporation. A water pipeline of 2.5 kilometres has been laid to carry the treated water to the Taljai hills. “This water will be used for the biodiversity park project. The soil water level will also increase because of this initiative,” added Bagul.
Bagul, along with the environmentalists, appealed to PMC to allocate But there are heavy investments needed and he as well as the environmentalists appealed to the PMC for budgetary allocation of ₹100 crores for the same. The Taljai hill will also soon have a 300 KW solar power project. Many closed circuit television (CCTV) systems will also be installed for people’s safety.
What is grey water?
Grey water is the water that has been used for washing dishes, laundering clothes, or bathing. Any water, other than toilet wastes, draing from the house is grey water. They are suitable for reuse.
