Seven arrested for stealing 24 bikes in Pune

Two cases of vehicle thefts were detected by the city police. In the first case, five minors have been arrested for stealing seven bikes while in the second case

Two cases of vehicle thefts were detected by the city police. In the first case, five minors have been arrested for stealing seven bikes while in the second case two persons have been held for stealing as many as seventeen two-wheelers.

The minors arrested by Uttamnagar police became vehicle lifters to lead a lavish life. The police have recovered seven bikes amounting to Rs 1.15 lakh from the accused. The first arrest made on July 31 was followed by four more and a case was registered against the five minors on Monday.

The incident came to light when one of the accused was spotted by a Police patrol team at Achanak Chowk in Uttamnagar. The accused was driving a black Activa (MH12GH9312). On suspicion, the cops checked the vehicle on a mobile app and found that the vehicle’s original registration number was MH12HG6312. The police followed the accused and detained him.

During questioning, the minor revealed that he and his four friends have stolen the vehicle from Ahiregate at Shivane three months back, besides seven other vehicles from various places across the city, said police, adding that they carried minor changes in vehicles to avoid getting caught.

The police have solved vehicle theft cases comprising nine offenses registered with the Hadapsar police station, three of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, two cases of Pune rural police.

The team headed by additional commissioner of police (crime) Pradeep Deshpande, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Shirish Sardeshpande, assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sameer Shaikh and Inspector Dinkar Mohite solved these cases.
