Spicer Adventist university V-C, CFO, arts HoD booked for forging PhD degrees

The vice-chancellor of Spicer Adventist university, located in Aundh, along with three others, was booked for forging a doctorate degree.

The people booked in the case were identified as Noble Prasad Pilli, vice-chancellor of Spicer Adventist university; Rathnasamy Jeyam, chief finance officer, Spicer Adventist university and Chacko Paul, head of arts department, Spicer Adventist university. Gopal Bhikaji Khandare, administrator at creative educational foundation, Katraj, and others who helped them obtain the allegedly forged degree were also booked.

The complaint in the matter was filed by a social activist called Alan Almeida, 53, a resident of Salisbury Park. In his complaint, he has alleged that the four obtained forged doctorate in philosophy degrees between 2010 and 2013. He also alleged that the PhDs were obtained and used in order to rise up the ranks at the university.

A case under Sections 417 (punishment for cheating), Section 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged documents as genuine) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the five at Chatuhshrungi police station.

DK Kapre, assistant police inspector of Unit 1 of Pune police crime branch, is investigating the case.
