Following reports about chairs without heads at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the university declared new heads for 11 research chairs on Wednesday. As per the website, a total of 19 chairs were instituted at the university for furthering research and academic discourse in their respective domains.
According to the statement released by the SPPU officials, Sunil Bhadange of Vidyapeeth Vikas Manch has been appointed as the head for the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Chair, which was headed by Ramnath Chavan previously. Mukund M Tapkir of Tikaram Jagannath Arts & Communication College, Khadki has taken charge of Padmashree Vikhe Patil Chair, which was previously unoccupied.
Further, prominent city-based economist, Abhay Tilak will be the head of Saint Tukaram Maharaj Chair and cultural thinker Mukund Datar will be the head of Saint Gnanadev Chair.
Well-known scholar and Marathi writer, Sadanand More has been appointed as the head of Saint Namdev Chai.
Vishwanath Shinde, a psychology expert, has been appointed for the Mahatma Phule chair, while Babasaheb Ambedkar chair previously headed by Vijay Khare, has been given to Gopal Guru, a former SPPU professor, author and editor of Economic and Political Weekly.
The others include Kiran Deshpande, TiE Pune president as the head of Bank of Maharashtra Energy Studies Chair, and Shashikant Katre, a scholar at Department of Mathematics, SPPU as head of the Lokmanya Tilak Chair.
