The incident happened on January 31 and the three were arrested on Saturday night from Beed and Aurangabad area of Maharashtra, said Ganesh Shinde, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Zone-3.

The three arrested men were identified as Trimbak Gnapati Nahirale, 37, Amol Lakshman Dhute, 27 and Vitthal Ramhari Jadhav, 34.

Of the total stolen amount, Rs.74,50,000 was recovered by the police. A case under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Wakad police station.

Ranjit Korekar drove away with the cash van belonging to Brinks company after the bank employees and two drivers alighted the vehicle around 1:30 pm on January 31.

“He told the bank employees that he had dysentery. When he drove away, they thought he had gone away because he was sick. It took them some time to realise what had happened,” DCP Shinde said.

“All four of them work as drivers and the car used in the crime is an Ola cab. The three arrested men have a criminal record. We have not found any criminal record of the driver, who is on the run,” said DCP Shinde.

The mastermind of the plan was Jadhav, who is from Beed, and the four of them have their houses in Dighi. They have known each other for some time. Further investigation is on in the matter.
