Two arrested for assaulting policeman

The Kothrud police have arrested two youths, identified as Omkar Shankar Kudale (24), a resident of Laxminagar, and Suraj Eknath Temghire (27), a resident of Shastrinagar in Kothrud, on charges of abusing and assaulting police constable PB Gaikwad of the Kothrud police station at On the Rocks Hotel at Chandani chowk on Sunday.
The duo, after being informed by the victim that they should not disturb law and order situation, hurled abuses and assaulted Gaikwad. Gaikwad later went to the police station and registered a case under IPC Sections 353 and 34, following which they were arrested.
This is the sixth case of physical assault on a policemen in the past three months. Recently, Nigdi police had arrested four persons on charges of physically assaulting constable Ashok Thakaware (27) inside Hotel Rathi in Raje Shivajinagar in Chikhali. The incidents are an indication that fear of the law is declining with many policemen coming under attack in the recent past. The civil society members have demanded professional policing and an end to endemic corruption in the ranks, which according to them, was leading to dismal and pathetic performance by the policemen on ground.
Seven booked for assaulting 30-year-old in Mangalwar peth
The Faraskhana police have booked seven persons on charges of assaulting a youth and three others on Friday. The victim, identified as Sachin alias Kumar Mhaske (30), a resident of Mangalwar peth, has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Kishore Balu Gaikwad, and seven others, including Manish Shinde, Geeta Kasbe and Zakir Jabbar Momin, assaulted him. Zakir was attacked with sticks and rods and his condition is critical, police said. Meanwhile, an FIR under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged against all the accused. No arrests have been made so far.
Three dead in road accidents in Chatuhshrungi
The Chatuhshrungi police have booked a Pune mahanagar parivahan mahamandal limited (PMPML) bus driver identified as Sunil Manuram Chavan (30),a resident of Dhamalwadi in Bhekrai nagar in Hadapsar, on charges of rash and negligent driving which led to the death of an unidentified 70-year-old woman at Vetal Baba Chowk on Senapati Bapat road on Friday.
According to the police, the victim was crossing the road when she was run over by a speedily driven bus by the accused. The victim died on the spot after which an FIR was lodged at the police station under IPC section 279,304 (A) and Motor Vehicle Act. No arrest has been made so far.
In yet another incident, Prateek Rajesh Singh (23), a resident of Nikhil Bungalow in Bhopal and currently resident of Volacas Housing Society in Baner was killed after the two-wheeler he was riding rammed onto a road divider near PAN card Club, leading to his death. In the third incident, motorcyclist Datta Vyakatrao Shiraskar (21), a resident of Sai Nagar in Pashan, was killed after he lost control over the bike and fell near Shanti Niketan Society. A case of accident death has been registered in both the cases by the Chatuhhrungi police in this regard.
