Pune The industrial township of Pimpri-Chinchwad, has reported two more deaths due to influenza A H1N1 infection on Wednesday and the death toll has escalated to 13.
A 60-year-old man from Malkapur district Buldhana and 72 -year-old women from Maan village were admitted to DY Patil Hospital Pimpri and Global Hospital Thergaon respectively. Both were recently diagnosed with swine flu and they succumbed to the influenza A H1N1 infection on September 5.
Because of shortage of Oseltamivir tablets in government and private hospitals, the standing committee of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has sanctioned the proposal for purchasing Oseltamivir tablets worth ₹18.95 lakh on Wednesday. Mamata Gaikwad, chairman, standing commitee said,“We have decided to purchase more Oseltamivir tablets on an immediate basis. All precautions should be taken on priority basis apart from focussing on care of patients.” As per the data provided by the health authorities of PCMC, a total of 13 patients have died due to influenza A H1N1 infection in the city since January this year. At present, 19 people are on artificial ventilation. As many as 79 people have tested positive for influenza A H1N1 virus since January, it added.
However, Dr Anil Roy, health chief of PCMC said, “We have enough stock of tablets. In September, PCMC witnessed four deaths, so we are trying to bring the situation under control. T ill date we have distributed 4096 tani flu tablets to suspects and we have enough stock to deal situation.”
