The man, accused of raping and impregnating a 10-year-old girl, had tried to molest a niece in Delhi as well.
“This is not the first time he has done this. He tried to violate his relative’s daughter in Delhi too. But no complaint was filed,” said an agitated aunt of the victim.
Working as a security guard on daily wage at a hotel at Sector 35, the accused is a distant relative of the victim from her maternal side. He has two children — a son and a daughter, who is married. His family stays in Nepal, while he has been residing in the servants’ quarters with his brother, sister-in-law and their son in a government house at Sector 37.
The victim, too, stayed in the servants’ quarters with her family in the same sector. “He used to visit the girl’s house during the day after she returned from school,” said sources. He used to come on the pretext of meeting his brother who stayed in the adjoining house. The girl’s elder sister used to be at a friend’s place while her parents used to be at work.
The accused allegedly raped the victim more than seven times. He always threatened her later, saying her family will reprimand her if she complains, said sources.
The crime finally came to light on July 14 after the girl complained of stomach ache. When taken to hospital, it was found that she is nearly eight-months pregnant. The accused was sent to police custody the next day. He is in jail at present.
‘Was always polite’
Even though the accused had been repeatedly exploiting the girl and there has been an accusation of a previous such incident as well, those close to him said he was very protective of women in his family, including wife, daughter and brother’s wife.
Be it his close relatives, acquaintances or employers, it is diffcult for them to come to terms with the fact that he could commit such a heinous crime. A picture that they draw is that of an introvert person, who preferred to keep to himself. The family that resides in the government bungalow where the accused had been staying for the past eight years is in shock.
“He was always so polite,” said the landlady. “We never heard him say anything inappropriate, let alone give us a reason to complain.”
“He spoke only when it was required,” said his sister-in-law, sitting in the servants’ quarter of the house. “We want death penalty for him. He’s ruined a family’s life.” Soon after the crime came to light, she had informed the accused’s wife over phone. “She is devasted and wants to commit suicide,” said the sister-in-law.
The accused has a similar reputation among his employers and fellow staffers too. He has been working at the hotel for seven years. A receptionist said he never noticed any odd behavior that could suggest the accused could commit such a crime.
