There are 16.85-lakh voters in Ambala (reserve) Lok Sabha constituency spread in nine assembly segments of Ambala Cantt, Ambala City, Naraingarh, Barara, Panchkula, Kalka, Sadhura, Jagadhri and Yamuna Nagar.
Deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer (RO) Saket Kumar informed that 9.4-lakh voters are male and 7.80-lakh are female, while 39,791 new voters are in the 18-19 years' age group. He said that 39,830 voters were above 80 years, out which 18,750 were men and 21,080 were women.
He said that Kalka assembly segment had 1.56 lakhs voters (72,522 women), Panchkula 1.94 lakh (90,623 women), Naraingarh 1.67 lakh ( 77,510 women), Ambla Cantt 1.70 lakh (79,695 women), Ambala City 2.25 lakh ( 1.06 lakh women), Barara 1.90 lakh ( 86,944 women), Sadhura 1.92 lakh (88,461 women), Jagadhri 1.92 lakh (88,366 women), Yamuna Nagar 1.97 lakh (90,269 women).
The RO said that all arrangements for a free and fair elections had been made and special vigil would be kept at sensitive and very sensitive polling booths.
He said that postal ballots had been sent through the district Sainik Board to the army personnel who are registered voters. Post ballots have also been sent to government employees are on election duty, he said.
It is for the first time that the staff on election duty would be able to cast vote at the polling booth where he or she is on duty.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Surinder Pal Singh said that phone numbers 8295497338, 8295497343, 8295497350, 8295497376 and 8295497384 would remain active at police control room on polling day where the voters could lodge their complaints.
