Dinanagar MLA Aruna Chaudhary of Congress alleged that liquor contractors in connivance with the excise and taxation department had been running 188 illegal liqour vends in addition to 175 legal liqour vends in Dinanagar assembly constituency.

Speaking to Hindustan Times on Monday, Aruna said that she wanted to raise the issue of illegal liquor vends operating in her assembly segment in the recently concluded session of Punjab vidhan sabha, but she was not allowed to speak by the speaker though he had promised to give her time for the same.

When contacted, Dinanagar excise and taxation officer PS Parmar said that he had recently assumed the charge as Dinanagar ETO, but he promised to do his best to get closed down illegal liquor vends if he found any in his jurisdiction.

He told that excise and taxation department had challaned such illegal vends and imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on the persons running them in Dinanagar on June 26 and 27.
