Two assistant sub-inspectors, including a woman, have been placed under suspension after they were found involved in a nexus by demanding `55,000 from the rape accused for relieving them of rape charges.
The erring cops were identified as ASI Surender Kumar and ASI Bimla. Former works as a reader to deputy superintendent of police Karan Goel, while the latter was the investigation officer in the related case.
As per details, a rape victim from Julana town of the district had lodged a complaint against two people a few days ago. While one of them was arrested, the other was yet to be arrested.
The woman cop, who was investigating officer of the case, contacted the second accused on phone and demanded `55,000 for excluding his name from the FIR. The accused produced the call recording before superintendent of police Rajesh Duggal.
Sources said on the orders of the SP, police laid a trap and caught the cops red-handed while accepting the bribe at a juice corner on Radio Station Chowk. Both were placed under suspension.
Talking to HT, DSP Karan Goel said both the erring cops were suspended and a departmental probe has been ordered. On the query of not registering a corruption case against the accused cops, he said if they were found guilty in query an FIR would be registered against them and due action would be taken.
