Krishna Devi, 58, of Jagatpur village of Balachaur in Nawanshahr had no idea whom to approach after she lost contact with her son Parminder Kumar, 30, working as a carpenter in Al Mosul. On Thursday, she approached Kashmir Singh of Bahadur Ke village of Ludhiana.

Krishna said Parminder had settled in Iraq for the past three years. She last talked to him on June 15. Parminder had told her that he, along with other workers, had been kidnapped by militants who were not allowing them to use mobile phones.

“I talked to him only for a few seconds before the phone was suddenly disconnected,” Krishna said.

“When Parminder went to Iraq, his wife was pregnant. Now, he is the father of a child, whom he has not met. Parminder had told us that he would come back home on Diwali,” she said. Kashmir Singh contacted the district administration and registered the details.
