Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation's financial troubles seem to be unending. A day after HT reported that former employees have been awaiting their pensions for over five months, it has now come to the fore that current employees have not been paid their salaries for over two months.
According to the PRTC officials, with the government pulling a plug on financial aid, the corporation is now on the brink of a collapse. It now owes as much as `8 crore as salaries, say sources.
Trade unions and employees blame the current situation on poor decisions on the part of the management.
"The current situation is the result of some poor decisions on the part of the top corporation officials, who instead of taking care of its employees' interests, resorted to the contract system and privatisation of the transport sector. It is now over two than two months since hundreds of employees (drivers, conductors and technicians) working in nine PRTC depots in the state received their salaries.
The management has failed miserably in taking care of its employees," said Suresh Sood, the general secretary of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), threatening to launch a state-wide protest unless salaries are paid.

{{/usCountry}}"It becomes impossible to work for more than three months without being paid. If higher authorities don't take any decision soon, we'll have no option but to protest."
PRTC managing director Rajeev Parashar could not be reached for his comments.
