228 nomination papers cancelled in Sangrur district

The district election authorities rejected 31 nominations papers for sarpanch's post and 197 for member's post during scrutiny of papers on Tuesday. Deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul has directed arms licence holders to deposit their weapons with the department concerned at the earliest in order to ensure violence-free election, scheduled for July 3.

Deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul has directed arms licence holders to deposit their weapons with the department concerned at the earliest in order to ensure violence-free election, scheduled for July 3.

The DC also instructed polling staff not to approach department with the requests to absolve them of election duties. "Strict disciplinary action would be taken against such polling staff," he said. HTC
