Several tins, allegedly containing more than three quintal of branded spurious desi ghee, were seized on Tuesday by a team of senior officials of the health department, that conducted raids at some famous shops situated in various markets of Moga under the supervision of Faridkot district health officer Surinder Kumar and food safety officer Mukal Gill.
Senior health officials said that the health department had received a tip-off that some milk sellers were preparing synthetic desi ghee with the help of adulterated milk products in various markets of Moga. "So we constituted a special team, that raided three shops at 7 o'clock in the morning today. The raided shops included Arora Enterprises, M/s Bhagwan Chand and M/s Kulbhushan Lal and seized 310 litre adulterated desi ghee," they said.
According to information, the seized ghee was packed in 1-litre and 500- gm pouches. The officials said, "It was a matter of concern that the accused had already sold off a large quantity of the adulterated ghee in the market. So, it would not be possible to retrieve all of it from the market."
Sources revealed that, during the raids, the department officials have so far found that some contaminated ghee, refined oil and some kind of powder was allegedly being mixed in the ghee. "Samples of the product have been sent for testing. Stern action would be taken against the guilty," said the officials.

{{/usCountry}}Parminder Singh Gill, deputy commissioner of Moga, said that the raids were conducted under the food safety Act. "The sale of spurious products of any kind would not be tolerated in the district. The raids would also be conducted on sweets shops and milk dairies in all sub-divisions of the district including Baghapurana, Dharamkot, Kot-Ise-Khan, Nihal Singh Wala, Badhni Kalan and Smalsar subdivisions. The residents should check the purity of desi ghee before buying it from the market, especially from sweets shops," said the DC.
