Now, it will be easy for the Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital officials to keep a tab on the movement of visitors on its premises, as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed on the hospital premises with the help of a non-government organisation (NGO) Ahsaas Charitable Trust.
NGO president Sangeeta Bhandari met senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu on Wednesday. Bhandari promised to get four CCTVs installed-one each at entry and exit point, one in casualty department and one at OPD entry-on the premises within a week.
It is pertinent to here mention that the hospital authorities had been trying since long to get CCTVs installed on the hospital premises. In September last year, the then civil surgeon had written to the health director to release funds for installation of CCTVs, but to no avail.
Installation of CCTV cameras was a long-pending demand of various departments and officials of the hospital that has witnessed many untoward incidents. While there have been fights among rival groups in the past, there have also been incidents wherein undertrials, who came for check-up fled from the hospital.
Patients also often allege improper treatment and misbehaviour by the medical staff at the out-patient departments (OPDs) and general wards.
SMO Dr Sidhu said, “We need such NGOs to step forward to help the hospital. These CCTV cameras will help us to keep an eye on the activities going on in the hospital. With this we can avoid many untoward incidents.”

Civil hospital to start helpdesk
The SMO has decided to start a helpdesk near OPD slip counter of the hospital for the convenience of patients visiting the hospital.
A huge number of illiterate and poor people visit the hospital on daily-basis but, are harassed due to lack of proper information.
They cannot read signboards, thus end up wasting a lot of time in finding out the right department for treatment.
SMO Dr Sidhu said, “There is a need of helpdesk at the hospital, so that patients are guided to the right department. It will save lot of energy and time of the patients visiting hospital. Thus, a help desk will be setup in the reception area soon.”
