50-year-old farmer set ablaze over land dispute

Jaskaran Singh, 50, a farmer from Gurusar village under Bajakhana police station was reportedly set on fire over a land dispute. He is critical and is admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, and is stated to be serious due to burn injuries.

The Bajakhana police have registered a case under section 307 of IPC (attempted murder) on the statement of the victim's son, Kuldeep Singh, against seven people.

Kuldeep has alleged that Virpal Kaur, his husband Gurnam Singh and five others tried to set his father ablaze when he tried to stop them from digging up a tubewell on his land, which he had allegedly sold to them.

"We have registered a case against the seven accused under Section 307 of the IPC and investigating the case," said SSP Gurmeet Singh Randhawa. I have instructed the DSP Jaitu Gurjeet Singh Romana to investigate the case," he said.

Jaskaran had reportedly sold his had sold his three acres of land to Virpal Kaur. wife of Gurnam Singh of Bhaini Sahib village.
