A 65-year-old man, Sudarshan Singh, was killed when a cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bursted in Jhujar Nagar in Mohali around 8.45 am on Wednesday. The intensity was such that the ceiling of the neighbour’s house also collapsed and a woman sleeping there got injured.

A visit to the spot revealed he lived alone; further details about him were not known. The injured woman, 22-year-old Reena Kaur, was admitted to the local civil hospital for treatment, whereas Sudarshan was declared brought dead.
Neighbours had informed the police and a fire tender was pressed into service. The firemen took out the body by breaking the locks. Fire department officials said the blast was apparently due to bursting of a cylinder caused by leakage.
This comes weeks after a cylinder blast in Panchkula claimed seven lives.
