A month after he joined as UT deputy commissioner, 2003-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer Ajit Balaji Joshi is still without the official accommodation. Joshi took over as DC on October 30.
The deputy commissioner is currently putting up at his in-laws’ house in Panchkula. Deputy commissioner of Chandigarh gets a Type-5 house. The department dealing with allotment of houses is giving the excuse that there is no Type-5 house available as of now. Joshi was reportedly given the option of moving to a Type-6 house, which is generally given to a junior rank officer.
The practice is that the deputy commissioner gets a Type-5 house in Sector 16. But, currently, as per officials no house of the said category is vacant.
Sources said Joshi had also taken up the issue with the UT adviser, Vijay Dev, who is also secretary, house allotment. But, so far, nothing has moved in this direction.
Sources said the DC is no table to conduct public meetings in absence of the official residence-cum-camp office in Chandigarh. Joshi has no choice but to keep sitting in the office till late to clear files and meeting people.
