In his absence, the spotlight was hogged by none other than comedian Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, who mixed humour and political sarcasm in equal measure in his speech.

In his 20-minute address, he justified the role of Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak in strengthening the party base in Punjab. He defended Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal and attacked the sacked convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur for levelling ‘baseless charges’ against Kejriwal.

Although, the party has yet to officially announce its candidate from the neighbouring seat of Batala, Ghuggi has already started campaigning there. His presence in today’s programme was a sure pointer to the fact that his name can be announced anytime now.

Due to the ‘anti-people’ policies of the SAD-BJP alliance, more than 18,000 industrial units have shifted their business to other states.

“Now, industrialists are disinclined to invest in Punjab and this state is increasing unemployment in the state and the frustrated unemployed youths are becoming victims of drugs,” he said.

Gurdaspur is the home district of former AAP state convener Chhotepur.
