In a statement issued here on Sunday, ACC corporate communication vice-president R Nand Kumar said: “It is the company's first WHRS plant and first project in the state to deploy waste heat recovery technology. The firm is also exploring the possibility of installing waste heat recovery systems at some of its other cement plants.”

Further elaborating about the system, he added it harnessed waste heat discharged during the cement manufacturing process as exhaust gases and convert it into useful electrical energy. “It comprises a suspension pre-heater boiler, an air quenching chamber boiler, a steam turbine generator, distributed control system, water-circulation system and a dust-removal system.”
“The cost of generating such energy is significantly lower than that of a captive power plant and costs only a fraction of the cost of grid power. These systems will play a vital role in energy conservation and are entirely eco -friendly as they do not need any additional fuels to generate electricity,” he added.
He claimed that WHRS at Gagal was expected to lead directly to a reduction of over 44,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.
