Accusing the Modi government of ‘betraying’ ex-servicemen and farmers, 78-year-old social activist Anna Hazare has said he will start a ‘fast unto death’ at Ramlila ground in Delhi from October 2 on the non-implementation of ‘one rank one pension’ (OROP) and against the land acquisition bill.
“Initially, I was impressed with prime minister Narendra Modi’s speeches abroad, but nothing has been done to bring ache din (better days) in the 14-month rule of the present government at the centre,” Hazare said, while addressing a rally of ex-servicemen organized by Haryana
Ex-Servicemen League on Sunday.
Hazare said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had come to power on the promises of OROP for ex-servicemen, Swaminathan commission for farmers and giving `15 lakh to every family from black money returned to the country.
“Not even a single promise had been fulfilled and the countrymen are feeling cheated. Politicians should understand that the People’s-Parliament (Jan-Parliament) is and will remain the biggest authority in the country,” said Hazare, adding that his stir had changed governments and this could happen again.
“Families of ex-servicemen are surviving in `4,000 per month, whereas MPs are demanding 100% hike in their salary from `50,000. I want to questions out MPs on their work in Parliament, which anyway has not been allowed to function for the past 15 days. For hiking their salary, they should take people’s permission,” he added.

{{/usCountry}}Hazare also sought cooperation from the people for the agitation starting from October 2, saying, that he would hold 15 rallies in several over the next 45 days to ensure his agitation was a success. On a request from the Rohtak police, Anna Hazare also participated in a function at the Ismaila village, which has been adopted by the Rohtak police.
