Administration gears up for flood threat, DC reviews

Deputy commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat visited areas that are prone to floods and held impromput meetings with officials.

"The Beas river has touched the Dhussi Bandh at Dera Hari Singh Wala, Mand near Dhilwan and Amritpur villages and at all these places, the administraion is focussed on getting work done at top-speed."

“Though water level in Beas has not increased in the recent days but we are ready for every eventuality,” he added.

Talking to HT, Mangat said, “Posts of irrigation department have been established at all the sensitive points on Dhussi Bandh and department officials have been asked to assure that all the motorboats, boats, pumps and other equipment are in working condition. We have also instructed the police to depute staff equipped with wireless sets on all the important points to be in constant touch with the control room.”

“We have established a control room with number 01822-231990 and have also requested the Army to help flood-affected villagers if the need arises. Army will set up different control room for the same purpose,” the DC added.

The construction of temporary studs was also at full swing in the Amritpur village on Friday when visited by the deputy commissioner.
