The administration will airdrop pamphlets in 18 localities of the city, motivating people to come out and cast their vote in large numbers on April 30, the day Punjab goes to the polls.

The state chief electoral officer had decided to launch this as a part of the initiative to increase voter turnout.

Earlier, the administration had fixed April 18 for this but the date was postponed to April 21 due to bad weather.

District election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said having planned the idea in Jalandhar, he had sent a proposal to chief electoral officer VK Singh to adopt it statewide and he accepted it.

He said an aircraft would start at 11 am from the district administrative complex and airdrop pamphlets for an hour in various localities of the city.

"About 2 lakh pamphlets will be showered.

The aerially dropped pamphlets will reach out to more people to motivate them to come out and vote," he added.
