The agitators, who locked the gate for two hours, opened it after an assurance from the school principal that their demand would be looked into.
As per the new policy of the state education department, the district education officer has declared the school 'dead' as the number of science stream students has declined below the required 25. So, as per the policy, the education department has shifted two science teachers of the school to nearby schools, where the number of the science students was more than 25.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, district education officer (secondary education) Nirmal Singh Sidhu said, "The decision to shift the teachers has been taken according to the new policy of the government but, as per the demand of the villagers, we have forwarded a letter to the officers concerned for the continuance of the science stream in this school."

As the number of science students of both medical and non-medical streams in 10+1 and 10+2, in this school was only 17, it is difficult for the education department to continue the science stream in this school, he added.

As per information, there are a total of 37 senior secondary schools in the district, out of which 14 have been declared 'dead' due to the lack of students and only 23 schools have enough students to run the science stream courses.
