Air Commodore Manavendra Singh gets Ati Vishisht medal

Hoshiarpur-born Air Commodore Manvendra Singh AVSM VrC VSM, was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi last week. After initial schooling at Ludhiana, he had joined the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on 29 December, 1982, as a helicopter pilot.

In a career spanning over 28 years, the officer has flown a wide variety of trainer aircraft and helicopters. He has nearly 7,000 hours of flying in various challenging sectors like the Siachen, the Eastern sector, the UP Hills and the Western desert. He is also a qualified flying instructor with vast instructional experience.

During his long career, the officer has held numerous important appointments at different headquarters.

He was the station commander of 39 Wing and later served in head-quarter IDS as director C412 AF.

He was the commander of the IAF Peacekeeping Contingent in Bukavu, Congo in 2009-10. He has been the principal director, intelligence, at air head-quarters, prior to his present appointment as the Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Race Course, New Delhi.

In recognition of his meritorious services to the IAF, he has been appointed as Commodore Commandant of 115 HU, a unit that he had commanded earlier.
