The airport intelligence unit (AIU) of the customs department on Thursday arrested a person from Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport and seized 828 gm gold worth ₹26.13 lakh concealed in his rectum.

Commissioner of customs (preventive) Dipak Gupta said on the basis of active profiling and suspicious movement, a domestic passenger coming from Delhi via Air India’s flight (AI 016-COMBO Flight) was intercepted by the AIU.
“On searching him by using the hand-held metal detector, concealing four cut pieces of a gold bar of foreign origin (purity 24 carrot) weighing 829.5gm valued at ₹26.1 lakh were found concealed in his rectum,” he said.
He said the passenger in his statement confessed the possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the aforesaid four pieces of a gold bar.
“The recovered gold pieces have been seized and the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962,” he added. However, Gupta didn’t disclose the name of the accused and he said, the investigation is going on.
