Amritsar to become first smart city of India

The fact came to the fore during a meeting between Anup Bartaria, chairman, World Trade Park, officials of the district administration and the Amritsar municipal corporation on Wednesday.

The fact came to the fore during a meeting between Anup Bartaria, chairman, World Trade Park, officials of the district administration and the Amritsar municipal corporation on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering, Bartaria said the civic aspects as sanitation, clean water supply, sewerage connectivity, good roads, environmental issues as well as traffic problems would be duly discussed with the departments concerned to make the city more beautiful and prepare it for the smart city project.

"The public will be provided various facilities and acquainted with state-of-the-art facilities," he said.
"Smart City means smart citizens. There is a dire need to educate the masses about their rights and duties," Bartaria added.

He also stressed on the need to enhance the tourism potential of the city by promoting its culture.
