Another militant module busted, two arrested in Nawanshahr

The police on Friday claimed to have busted another terrorist module with the arrest of two members of the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) in the district.

The police on Friday claimed to have busted another terrorist module with the arrest of two members of the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) in the district.

The two militants have been identified as Gurjeet Singh of Wadala Granthia village in Gurdaspur and Gurmukh Singh of Talwandi Nahar in Amritsar.

The duo has been nabbed from the railway station at Kultham village in the district. A case under Sections 121, 121-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 10 and 13 of Unlawful Activities Act and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against them.

The police have also recovered a .9mm bore country-made pistol from Gurjeet Singh.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Harwinder Singh said both of them were involved in militant activities, Gurjeet was earlier arrested for shooting at Shiv Sena leader Harvinder Soni at Gurdaspur on April 13, 2015. He was on bail in the case.

He said Gurjeet was funded by Canada-based Malkeet Singh, who hails from Talwandi Nahar village of Amritsar.

Police said that during preliminary investigations, Gurjeet has disclosed that he and his associates had shot at and seriously injured Baba Maan Singh at Rodeana village of district Gurdaspur in 2015.
